• Programs Aplenty using LibWizard Tutorials,Kayla Harris and Katy Kelly, University of Dayton
  • The Library at the University of Dayton had incredible virtual programming success during the 2020-2021 academic year with trendy information literacy topics and interactive content related to history, archives, special collections, art, and even a library tour. Most of the 8 LibWizard programs this academic year, were available to students for 30 days or less, had over 7221 total participants. Student feedback showed positive engagement with the module-based learning compared to other programs available. One student even said, "I LOVE the format of the library modules, so user-friendly and easy to follow!" This presentation will look at ideas and best practices for using LibWizard Tutorials for co-curricular learning modules incorporating our experiences and student feedback.
• Harnessing LibCal Seat Reservation Data to Improve Library Spaces, Jena Styka, Case Western Reserve University
  • During the pandemic, many libraries implemented the LibCal seat reservation system to help with social distancing and contact tracing. As libraries return to pre-pandemic norms, how can libraries continue to take advantage of the LibCal seat reservation data? In this presentation, Jena will demonstrate how Kelvin Smith Library used their LibCal seat reservation data to create heat maps of the library spaces in Tableau. They then used these heat maps to make decisions as they reset the library spaces for the fall semester. The value of mapping this data allowed them to uncovered trends that would have been very challenging to identify without visual mapping. Attendees of this presentation will learn how to get started with their own heat maps and how they can use this data for better decision-making!
• Using a Design System to Reimagine Events in LibCal, Maura Ferrarini, Harvard University
  • In Spring 2021, Harvard Library changed its main event management system from Drupal to LibCal. Using an Agile-inspired approach, we redesigned how calendars and events look in our LibCal instance, bringing them in line with Harvard Library’s digital branding and creating a more seamless library experience for our users. Come learn how Harvard Library is using a design system to build out its digital brand in Springshare products like LibCal.
• Finding UNITY in the Community: LibGuides as Tools of Inclusion, Jessica Riedmueller, Dr. Taine Duncan, and Hannah Hanshaw, University of Central Arkansas
  • What do Lady Gaga and LibGuides have in common? It sounds like the start of a joke, but the answer is the University of Central Arkansas’s Gender, Sex, and Sexuality Community Resources guide. This presentation is the story of a regional resource guide created to connect University of Central Arkansas students with supportive community organizations and services that became national news, permanently linked to a glittery Lady Gaga quote. The political turmoil following a single promotional Facebook post emphasized weaknesses in our University’s support for our LGBTQ+ community, but it also highlighted how we can use our guides as tools to encourage an inclusive environment, in defiance of the state politics that seek to oppress and exclude.
